Mass

VERIFIED

Mass is a band in close contact with its curious and experimental nature. The band's three young musicians from Hylke and Lemvig, respectively, strive purposefully to enter untouched ground in music. They experiment and put jazz in a modern context, through their compositions and common timbre. On a compositional level, the music seeks open spaces between the forms, where intimacy and intention flourish. In terms of sound, the double bass, the saxophone and the close, sizzling drums come together in an equal and energetic communication. Through the band's modern sound, Mass wants to present the music's extremity and wildness, its simultaneous fragility to as wide an audience as possible. Last year, the band entered the stage with the release of the debut EP "shitpigeon" recorded in Finland Studio. The release resulted in a nomination for the Danish Music Award (DMA Jazz) in the “New Act“-category.

In general, Mass seeks music that is first and foremost uncompromising and honest. Music with a truthful message is rarely exclusively nice. The band sees the hard and raw as being similarly strong and beautiful as the immediately neat. In their uncompromising compositions, Mass seeks away from the polished. This search for honest ideas is expressed in strong and wild movements as well as in the quiet and fragile. The expression is both basally and intellectually strong. This contradiction is not the only one found in the group's DNA. Experiencing Mass can be hard as soft. The music is purposeful and searching. The compositions are stubborn and at the same time extend into winding, uncertain bends. It is difficult to describe the sound of Mass without the opposite being just as true. The music is shapeless, multicolored, elastic and strong. Hence the name.
