SAMMENFALD

The Artist

Sammenfald, a new Danish female music artist, emerges onto the music scene with a stage name rooted in her life, containing references to "collapse," "breaking down," "collective fall from grace," and "fortunate coincidences." A universal approach to experiencing life, consisting of many coincidences, which can be perceived as constructed repetitive occurrences forming the foundation of life events.

The Music

Her debut release, "Moderkød" ("Mother's Flesh"), is a musical journey through complex emotions, motives, and soundscapes, showcasing her unique approach to a Danish-language Trip-hop genre. It carries echoes of Balstyrko, Massive Attack's "Teardrop," and Dutch's "A Bright Cold Day" album. "Moderkød" boasts a distinct musical signature, beautifully combining electronic synthesizers, intricate drum breaks, hand-played bass by Christoffer Dyhr, and Richard Miklos' poignant violin arrangements with Sammenfald's vocal harmonies and ambient soundscapes in a shared sonic landscape. This eclectic mix of sound sources creates an atmosphere inviting the listener into a world of musical depth and emotional intensity.

The Singer

The lyrics of "Moderkød" are deeply rooted in human experiences and emotions. Sammenfald's lyrics function as poetic reflections on the thematic complexity of life, providing listeners with an insightful, direct connection to her artistic vision. Her voice guides listeners through lyrical landscapes where each word serves as a bridge between the personal and the universal. Her contribution to music extends beyond being just a "sound"; it delves into a profound exploration of moods and, for the receptive listener, an intervention into their soul. Her artistic talent marks her as more than just a singer but as an artist who manages to be equally vulnerable and optimistic, thereby creating an emotional connection.

The Producer

The track has Defnez as the main producer, co-writer, and studio musician. He has previously worked with underground hip-hop artists like Mund de Carlo, Otesla, My-t, and recently Aske Skov. In recent years, his focus has been on being half of the Danish electronic duo Left-Handed Favour, with significant airplay on platforms like DR P3. Defnez has also worked in mainstream genres, including Urban Pop & Alternative R'n'B. Like on "Moderkød," he often serves as the architect of sound engineering and mixing.

Collaboration

The collaboration between Defnez and Sammenfald is characterized by enthusiasm, openness, and curiosity about what "happens." They both work intuitively and methodically, drawing inspiration from each other's contributions and collaborating individually. In many ways, they are opposites that meet, yet with several coincidences on a personal level. Like magnets with opposing poles, there is magic when they synergize to create music, holding significant potential, and it will be exciting to follow their development following this debut.

Inspiration

Sammenfald's singer and songwriter is a late bloomer in terms of music releases but has a rich musical background. Growing up with a jazz musician and retired music teacher father, she was immersed in Swing Jazz and the music of Carlos Santana. Although she played various instruments during her upbringing, her interest was more in using them as tools for composing rather than mastering each instrument individually. Music has always played a significant role in her family, and listening to music is a way for her to "breathe." Her musical inspirations span a wide range from Jazz, Old School Hip-hop, DUB, Dancehall/Afrobeat, Electronica, to a general attraction to fusion music like Jazzmatazz, Astor Piazzolla, Melanie De Biasio, and Nicolas Jaar. Besides music, she is a graduate in Clothing Design from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts (KADK) and has worked primarily as a Graphic Designer. Currently, her focus is on wall colors in interior design as a guiding interior designer. In addition to music, she expresses herself through art, painting colorful portraits of people close to her, visible on Instagram (@bobo.playground.art).

Moderkød

The lyrical universe of the song is based on a reflection and processing of personal sorrows. The song is twofold, addressing existential themes of life and death. The first verse reflects destruction and powerlessness, while the second verse is about acceptance, vitality, strength, and redemption. The verses illustrate the changeable, while the chorus expresses the static, like a kind of chanting mantra. The artist has experienced the loss of three "young" men very close to her within the last three years, each for different reasons: murder, suicide, and illness. Recently, she has become a single mother to her three children. She stands alone with her own, sametime her 3 kids sorrow.
